The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: John 14:12-17 / Psalm 53

“I do not pray for these only, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word.”
John 17:20

We Have A Lord Who Prays For Us

We have a Lord who is infinitely more able than any earthly sovereign to grant our petitions. That same Lord also prays for us. He has promised that whatever we ask the Father in His name, the Father, according to His will, will grant. Christians customarily end their prayers to God by saying, “I ask this in Jesus’ name” or “I pray for Jesus’ sake.” This is how our Lord has asked us to pray. But since we say it often, we can forget the tremendous meaning and result of this great privilege that our Lord has given us.
When we pray in the name of our Lord, we are admitting that we are worthy of none of the things for which we pray, that in our own name we have even the right to ask. But we have a Lord who has granted us the right to pray. We have a Lord who has told us, “sign my name to your prayers.” Because He has paid for our sins on Calvary, His Father and ours will grant every petition of ours that He deems in His wisdom to be for our good.
But there is more. Our Lord prays for us. He personally represents our petitions to our Father in heaven. He intercedes for us. We can be certain that our prayers are indeed heard and answered in the best possible way.
Jesus, our Lord, keep us ever before the throne of grace and mercy, where You live and intercede for us. Amen.
