Day by Day with Martin Luther

Read: Deut. 31:1-32:27 Luke 12:8-34 Proverbs 12:21-23

“Confidence that Sustains”

“ I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
[John 16:33]

We are sustained by this confidence; and we have no doubt that Christ is powerful enough not only to sustain us but to conquer all the power of the oppressors and the wiles of the heretics. He gave ample evidence of this in the case of the Jews and the Romans, whose fierceness and persecution He once bore. He had to bear the wiles of the heretics also; but in time all of them were overthrown and destroyed, and He remained the King and the Victor. Regardless of how much some rage today or of how others distort and corrupt the Gospel of Christ, Christ will remain forever, and the Word of God will stand forever (1st Peter 1:25); and all His enemies will be defeated.
