Reflecting God
The Bible says many things about God. It says God is all-knowing, all-powerful, present everywhere, eternal. Most important and very comforting to us is the fact the Scriptures say that “God is love”. Men may know that the deity is all-knowing and all-powerful. But until they know that God is love, as Lent resounds with that love in the dying of the Son of God, they cannot really know God.
God has put us, His children, into the world to learn, first of all for ourselves, this all-surpassing and eternal love. But God loves the world, too, and He loves it with the same love with which He loves us. He has put us here not only to know His love, but to reflect it in our daily lives. This the people of Christ have done through the centuries in their concern for the miserable ones of the world. Into a heathen world 2,000 years ago, a world was loves and callous, they brought the amazing Gospel of mercy and love.
We should be kind especially to the unkind. Who knows what shadows of fear, despair, cruelty, or tragedy may lie upon them? Therefore, they need God’s love for them all the more.
Father of love, help us to show Your love, by our love. Amen.
