Day by Day with Martin Luther

Read: Joshua 7:16-9:2 Luke 16:1-18 Proverbs 13:2-3

“The Lord Will Answer”

“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
[John 15:7]

Scripture tells us that no one has the ability to make his own way to God through his own devotion or works … you must come to Him through the Seed of Abraham and be blessed through Him, according to the wording of the Testament of God. Since the divine nature is so high and intangible for us, He has for our good taken on Himself the nature most familiar to us: our own. That is how He wants to care for us; that is where He wants to be found, and nowhere else. Whoever calls on Him, here, is immediately heard. Here is the throne of grace, where no one who comes is excluded. The others, who let Him dwell there in vain, and would otherwise serve and call on the God, who created heaven and earth, already have their answer when the Psalmist says, “they cried for help, but there was none to save; they cried to the Lord, but he did not answer them.” [Psalm 18:41
