The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: 2nd Timothy 2:18-19 / Psalm 70

“Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached
in my Gospel.”

2nd Timothy 2:8

Remember!

There is a friendly word we often treat as an enemy, an excellent word that we often resent and tend to despise because it admonishes. It is the word “remember”. Remember to wear your boots. Remember to take your umbrella. Remember to make your bed. Remember to pick up your room. How often the word “remember” becomes a word of dreary obligation.
But we must make friends with this word “remember”. It is often used in the Bible. When God gave the Ten Commandments, He wove this Word into the very texture. Through the writer of Ecclesiastes, God said: “remember also your Creator in the days of your youth” [Ecclesiastes 12:1]. God asks that we remember His commands and His blessings.
Still another of God’s reminders comes to us through St. Paul: “remember Jesus Christ”. We need this reminder if we are to grow each day as Christians. Indeed, this is what constitutes a true education. We must be delivered from self-centered thinking. We need to forget ourselves in order that we may remember Jesus Christ and turn our minds to Him.

Heavenly Father, let us now remember Your redeeming work in Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
