The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: Galatians 5:16-25 // Psalm 25:14-20

“If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.”
Galatians 5:25

The Power for Work

What magnificent graces the Holy Spirit gives the Christian! Hopeless is the life of thought and emotion, word, and deed, of the man without God and Christ. Not joyous, able, strong, is the life of the man filled with the Spirit of God.
Somehow, it often comes with the force of a surprise that every Christian has this Spirit and therefore this power. We are apt to look at the gifts of the Spirit in others. We should see them and be glad. We can also see them in ourselves. In us is the power that made Abraham the father of many faithful; that sent Samson forth to scourge God’s enemies; that helped Isaiah say, “Here I am, send me”; that flung Paul on through every woe he had to face. Where is the Spirit – in us!
But let us remember this: all things we do as tasks for God must be done in His Spirit’s power alone. We cannot do His work alone. Freight trains are not drawn by dog teams, but a locomotive. For Divine Tasks, we need the Divine. God Himself must guide us to see the power He uses to work in us.
