The Best of the Portals of Prayer
Read: 1st Peter 1:13-25 // Psalm 89
“Forever, O Lord, Your Word is firmly fixed in the heavens.”
Psalm 119:89
God’s Word Stands
In the days of the French Revolution, enemies of Christianity said to a peasant, “we will pull down your church steeples. Then you’ll no longer have anything to remind you of your God and your faith.” “That’s fine”, the person replied; “but you must leave us the stars.” No one can tear down the stars. Nor can anyone destroy God’s Word. Century upon century – there it stands. Empires rise and fall – there it stands. Atheists rail against it – there it stands. Storms of hate swirl against it – there it stands. Flames are kindled against it – there it stands.
Scripture is as eternal as its author. God’s Word will not pass away. We can lean our weight on it without risk. It will never crumble. In God’s holy Word we come into eternal greatness. The Word sweetens life. It is an armor plate against evil. It brightens our path and sets our spirits ablaze. It is God speaking to us, cleansing us, holding us, and leading us to Jesus.
Lord, may Your powerful Word grow in me forever, until I see You, the very Word, in eternity. Amen.
