The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: John 17:10-17

“To those sanctified in Christ Jesus.”
1st Corinthians 1:2

Sanctified in Christ

We are living in an age that has the distinction of being the cleanest in the history of man. Strict rules of sanitation and cleanliness are insisted upon by those who wish to lead healthy lives. If daily cleansing of the body is necessary to physical health and happiness, it should be equally true that a daily sanctification is essential to spiritual health and happiness. Deeply solemn, therefore, is the thought our verse suggests: “Sanctification in Christ Jesus.” He who “chose us in Him… that we should be holy and blameless before Him” [Ephesians 1:4] expects and demands this daily sanctification. And although we have become new and holy creatures in Christ, we are still tempted to sin by weakness of the flesh. And every repeated act of sin, whether in thought, word, or deed, leaves its stain on the soul. The devil, the world, and our flesh place many stumbling stones in our Christian way, and many times our garment of righteousness and holiness bears the polluting stains of our sins of weakness. Each day demands, therefore, that we go in prayer to the throne of grace and petition the Holy Spirit to cleanse and sanctify us anew in the fountain of God’s forgiving Word.
Let us bow our heads as Jesus prays to His heavenly Father for us: “sanctify them in the truth; Your Word is truth”. Amen.
