The Best of the Portals of Prayer
Read: Matthew 14:13-21 / Psalm 107
“Andrew said: ‘there is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish,
but what are they for so many?”
John 6:9
Somebody Needs You
More than five thousand people had gathered on a hillside in Galilee to hear Jesus and watch Him heal the sick. When evening came, Jesus had pity on them. He fed the weary, hungry multitude, using five loaves and two fish that belonged to a young boy. Jesus helped these people by using other people. The great commands still remain the same: “love the Lord with all your being, and love your neighbor as yourself”. We are all meant to be bound together by this love.
There is enough food for the world to be satisfied. Yet everyday, thousand die of malnutrition because food is not distributed fairly. The Lord depends on us, who have daily bread, to share with those who do not. Multitudes hunger for the bread of life, the Gospel. They will perish if they don’t know God loves them and came to earth to live a life of love in His Son. Jesus’ death makes eternal life possible for them. The Lord doesn’t expect us to “fix” the whole world. But he reminds us that someone out there, perhaps in your own family or neighborhood, needs you – needs Jesus.
