The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: John 6:1-14 / Psalm 116

“Andrew said, ‘there is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish,
but what are they for so many?”

John 6:9

The Power of One

One boy did not seem very significant that day in a crowd of 5,000 men. His supply of bread and fish would not have gone very far, even if he had been willing to sell them. But the boy became a good example for us, as he made the bread and fish available to Jesus. Our Lord multiplied them so they were sufficient to feed the vast throng.
Most of us, at one time or another, have felt insignificant. The abilities we have and the things we possess may not seem important in relieving the misery of the world. Yet today, as in the past, God can do much with our “little”.
One act of kindness can brighten the whole day for many. Those who were helped come into contact with others and can multiply the effect of that one kind deed. One word of forgiveness or encouragement sometimes sets the direction of an entire life.
Let us remember the power of one person – the influence for good that each of us has the ability to perform. Through one act, one person, God can bless a whole family, change a community for the better, and inspire an entire congregation.
Lord Jesus, help us to seize every opportunity You give us today to love You through loving others. Amen.
