The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: 1st John 4:7-11 / 1st Corinthians 13:4-6

“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.”
1st John 4:9

True Love

If you listen to music from a radio station for an hour, you will discover that are few songs that don’t have love and romance as the theme. Love is more than just a song. Love is visible. People see it in you. You show it. God our creator revealed it. He proved His love when he sent His Son to become a man in Jesus Christ. Out of His love, God ordained that Christ would take the punishment for our sin upon Himself and pay the price for us. “The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all” [Isaiah 53:6].
What is love? It is the total giving of yourself to another with no thought of reward for yourself. In His most trying moment, as the battered Savior walked toward Calvary’s cross, He saw some women from Jerusalem weeping. He stopped. “Do not weep for me.” He said, “but weep for yourselves and for your children” [Luke 23:28]. Even at that moment, Christ was concerned not for Himself, but that people might believe in Him and be saved from the coming destruction. True love is patient, does not seek it’s own, is not arrogant, and bears all things. That is God’s love.
