Day by Day with Martin Luther
Read: Leviticus 19:1-23:44 Mark 8:11-10:12 Proverbs 10:17-19
“Weak But Strong”
“But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly but in private. The Jews were looking for him at the feast, and saying, “Where is he?””
[John 7:10-11]
To some, Christ appears weak. He sneaks up to Jerusalem as though He feared the Jews. But fear does not move Him to disregard the command and Word of God because of their defiant attitude. No, He complies with God’s command to preach the Gospel; He goes up to Jerusalem and preaches … thus the Lord Christ consoles us. He will have us know that our experiences will be like His. At times we will be weak, while our enemies and adversaries will appear as strong and boasting “blusterers”. But Christ will see us through their hot words. God takes pleasure in strengthening the weak, and in weakening the strong. For His name is Creator, who makes all out of nothing, and again makes nothing out of all.
