Day by Day with Martin Luther

Read: Exodus 8:1-13:16 Matthew 19:13-21:22 Proverbs 6:1-15

“Do Not Worry”

“Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
[1st Peter 5:7]

Do not worry – not at all. However, if something should happen to make you worry – as it must – since we have many offenses and struggles on earth – then act in this manner: do not at all attempt to deal with your worry, whatever it may be, but leave the worry behind, turn with prayer and supplication to God, and ask Him to accomplish all you wanted to accomplish with your worries. Do that with gratitude that you have a Lord and God who cares for you and to whom you may boldly refer all your concerns. But whoever does not act that way when something happens, but first wants to estimate it with his own reason and ideas, and handle his own worries, loses his joy in watching the Lord deal with it all. If we do not turn to Christ, we only dig in the sand, and sink further and further until we cannot get out.
