The Best of the Portals of Prayer
Read: Romans 13:1-8 // Psalm 33
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as His heritage.”
Psalm 33:12
Lord of the Nations
Government works best if leader and recognize the Divine Giver of all power and authority. The psalmist declares, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” He is none other than Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Paul wrote, “For by Him things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible” [Colossians 1:16]. Jesus Himself announced, “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” [Matthew 28:18]. The Holy Scriptures show this so well. Through the ages, leaders come and go. Nations rise and fall in spite of best-laid-plans. History is clearly in the hands of God.
Through Jesus, our Lord, we know God as our heavenly Father who loves us. He rules the world and the destiny of nations in the best interest of His plan of salvation. Paul wrote, “all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose” [Romans 8:28].
Let us thank God for the blessings of homeland and government, for freedom to worship, for the privilege to proclaim His love in word and deed, for the opportunity to live under Christ in His kingdom and to serve Him.
Lord God, be gracious and merciful to us and bless us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
