The Best of the Portals of Prayer
Read: Isaiah 61 // Psalm 147:1-13
“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted.”
Isaiah 61:1
Shattered
Have you ever felt broken inside? And not just broken, but even shattered like a mirror? Outside you look fine; but inside, your life, your dreams, your aspirations are broken into a million pieces, your mirror would still be fractured and useless.
Christ came into our world in order to reorder and rebuild the “broken mirror” of our hearts and lives. Christ came to re-create our sinful and broken world in His own image, the image we lost when we brought sin into the world. Christ broke that evil power when He remained faithful to the Father and offered His life on Calvary’s cross. And no Christ lives to apply His resurrection forgiveness and peace, through the Gospel, to all our hurts, anger, grief, sorrow, and brokenness.
Through Christ, we were first made. He is the only One who can fix us. He declares us forgiven, clothing us in His holiness by grace. He makes the mirror of our lives shine like new. Having restored us to Himself, Christ gives us life through His Word and Sacraments.
Merciful Father, create anew the sin-cracked mirror of my life to reflect Your love for me in Jesus Christ. Amen.
