The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: Romans 8:28-29 / Psalm 91

“God is our refuge and strength.”
Psalm 46:1

Our Strength

From some evils, we can flee. Some difficult situations we must face. We work, and often our calling presents serious problems that tax our inner resources. Family living brings heavy demands on our capacity to understand, to show patience, to love, and to make needed decisions. There are always the temptations to be like the world and to permit ourselves to be squeezed into the mold of conformity with that which has no part of God. High pressures of life seem to allow only the fittest to survive, and we wonder whether we that fit.
But God knows us, as He did with the Church in Philadelphia, that “you have little power”. Our weakness does not move Him to contempt. Rather, He is one to “sympathize with our weaknesses” [Hebrews 4:15]. He not only knows how to help and care enough to help, but he is also our Strength. Victory or success does not depend on how much power we have in ourselves, but on God, our “literal” strength.
Paul says; “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” [Philippians 4:13].

Lord, give me the faith to say, “my help comes from the Lord.” Amen.
