Day by Day with Martin Luther

Read: 2nd Samuel 22:1-1st Kings 1:53 Acts 2:1-4:37 Proverbs 16:19-24

“Trusting Our Creator”

“Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful
Creator while doing good.”
[1st Peter 4:19]

Those whom God afflicts with suffering which they themselves have not sought, and chosen, should entrust their souls to Him. They do well, continue in good works, do not withdraw because of the suffering, and entrust themselves to their Creator who is faithful. This is a great comfort for us. God created your soul without any trouble and assistance on your part. He did so before you came into being. Accordingly, He is surely able to preserve it. Therefore, entrust it to Him, but in such a way that it is done with good works. You must not think: “ah, I will die with no concern.” You must see to it that you are a good Christian. Which of course, can only be done in Christ. I think I will walk around Wittenberg today, find a stranger, and tell them about my hope in Christ.
