“Singing for Joy”

“I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.”
[Psalm 118:21]

This is a happy verse, singing out of pure joy: are You not a wonderful and delightful God, to govern us so amazingly and so kindly? You exalt us when you humble us. You make us righteous though we are sinners. You lead us to heaven when we deserve hell. You grant us victory when we deserve defeat. You comfort us when we mourn, and so we can still rejoice when we weep. Innumerable riches and wonders are included in this verse; and all Christendom together praises God for them in these few short words: “I thank You, that You have humbled me, and have helped me again.”
