“Christian Peace”
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
[Romans 5:1]
This is the Christian faith, which gives peace to the heart, not simply when affliction is absent, but mostly when it is present. And this is the difference between earthly and heavenly peace: if someone is suffering, he does not have earthly peace. Christian peace will eventually embrace external discord. Poverty, death and persecution are present, but Christian peace is not destroyed by those. This peace surpasses reason and understanding and puts a troubled heart at rest. Even if death assails me, I say, “Christ is risen and has conquered death.” If I am poor, I look at the wealth of Christ. And whatever other danger might confront the Christian, he turns his eye to Christ and sees the author of his peace.
