Day by Day with Martin Luther

Read: Numbers 11:24-13:33 Mark 14:22-52 Proverbs 11:4

“Listen with Joy”

“After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high …”
[Hebrews 1:3]

Here He comes to the Gospel proper. Everything which can be said about Christ is of no help to us until we hear that all of it is said for our good and benefit. Why would it be necessary to preach to us, if it happened for the sake of our Lord alone? This applies to our salvation, as many leaders fail to realize, for some reason. And so, we listen with joy, for these are exceedingly precious words. Christ, who is so great, the heir of all things, a radiance of divine honor, the imprint of the divine essence, who upholds the universe not through someone else’s power or assistance but by His own activity and power – in short, who is all in all – He has served us, poured out His love, and made purification for our sins.
