Day by Day with Martin Luther
Read: Numbers 26:52-28:15 Luke 3:1-22 Proverbs 11:16-17
“Our Certain Faith”
“But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.”
[Acts 4:19-20]
We can stand the loss of our possessions, our name, our life, and everything else; but we will not let ourselves be deprived of the Gospel, our faith, our Lord Jesus, any longer – and that is that! I want to be stubborn and to be known as someone who is stubborn about this. I wish to bear this inscription in my preaching and teaching; “I yield the Gospel to no one.” I will bend and bear all things that have to do with everyday affairs that need bending and bearing, but not faith. So far as faith is concerned, therefore, a Christian is as proud and firm as he can be; and they must not relax or yield one bit on the Gospel of Jesus.
