“The Precious Treasure”
“Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas.”
[Luke 23:18]
That is the way things must go; that is how things have always gone, and how they will always go. This is the custom of the world, that the more precious the gift from God, the more hostile toward it the world becomes. Well-ordered authority and external peace are certainly fine things; but the devil cannot tolerate them, and stirs them up to murder and bloodshed. He cannot bear human beings treating each other kindly. But when it comes to the sublime gifts of God, such as Scripture, the Gospel, and Christ, when this treasure brings happiness and righteousness and life, he will send forth another Barabbas. The world always will free another Barabbas, and will continually seek to destroy another Christian, a “little Christ”. When that happens, you are simply following the steps of our Lord. Take heart, “little Christ” you are a precious treasure to our Father. Go live your day as a precious gift of God.
