Ashes for Bread
“Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread?” asks Isaiah. But where do we find living bread for our soul? “I am the bread of life” says Jesus [John 6:35]. He satisfies every need. Are we weeping? Jesus comforts. Are we wounded by son? Jesus heals. Are we troubled? Jesus promises to be with us. Are we in distress? Come to Jesus and find rest for your souls. Oh, what peace we often forfeit because we do not go to Him. To seek spiritual satisfaction anywhere else is feeding on ashes. Even the tiniest weed will not grow in burned out coals. Yet, how many are satisfying themselves with the husks of cults and “isms” of the day and are despising the Gospel of Jesus.
We must all go back to God, back to that old glorious message that He so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. No greater news release has ever been given to the world. This Gospel fills us with peace, gives us eternal hope, and makes us sure and certain of our salvation. Yet how often are we absent from the house of the Lord. Nothing will fatten the soul but the good ‘ol Gospel of the cross. Jesus satisfies, and He alone saves.
Dear Lord, allow no other interest to enter my heart and mind. May it always be filled with the precious Gospel of salvation and peace. Amen.
