The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: Exodus 20:1-17 / Psalm 11

Watch the Detours

God says in, “I am the Lord your God … you shall have no other gods before Me”. Is that an easy commandment to follow? We don’t worship idols made of wood or stone, but maybe other “gods” are lurking about, calling for our attention. The person or thing we love more than God is an idol. “I am your beautiful ……… take care of me ahead of your Lord …… worship me with great pride and satisfaction.”
It is easy to get distracted by the calls of these “gods”. Much of what they demand is good and necessary. However, the Lord our God reminds us that He will not tolerate it. What do we do? Jesus had the answer. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself” [Luke 10:27]. He loved God so much that He went to a cross. He loved His neighbors so much that He died for their sin. Faith in the Savior enables us to worship God and serve others.

Lord, grant us true faith and love. Lead us to true worship of You and true service to others. Amen.
