The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: John 1:1-12 / Psalm 87

“He is actually not far from each one of us, for “in Him we live and move and have our being; as even some of your own poets have said, ‘for indeed we are His offspring.”
Acts 17:27-28

His Offspring

Paschal said; “man is a god-shaped hole,” incomplete by himself. St. Augustine said, “O God, Thou has created us for Thyself, and our hearts are restless until they find their in Thee.” Who has not experienced that strangely restless feeling that comes when least expected? It can come when we are at the “top of our game” – often right at the apex of tremendous achievements in life.
And then, suddenly, there is restlessness and dissatisfaction. We yearn for more fulfillment than the world can ever give to us. We try to find peace, but it always seems that we don’t quite belong, relationships don’t live up to our expectations, and human institutions fail us.
Our yearning is for God. It is interesting that God’s Word tells us that He is also yearning for us – and searching for us. What a blessing we find when through His Word we hear the message of His love and concern as demonstrated in the cross of His Son! For we belong to Him! We are God’s offspring in Christ. And we shall be happy only when we acknowledge and live according to this fact.

O God, thank You for creating and love me. Amen.
