Day by Day with Martin Luther

Read: Judges 21:1 – Ruth 1:22 John 4:4-42 Proverbs 14:25

“Waging War”

“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.”
[2nd Corinthians 2:14]

Here above all we must know that God is among us and fights for us, and in this knowledge we wage the wars of the Lord with safety and good cheer. Our powers, however, which are wisdom, knowledge, understanding, as well as our weapons, namely the Sword of the Spirit and Scripture, are nothing but the outward work under which God Himself is powerful among us and fights and conquers. Thus Paul says in 2nd Corinthians 10:4 – “for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” With that truth we cannot boast in any human power, but solely in the power of Christ. Christ alone makes us triumphant.
