The Best of the Portals of Prayer
Read: Matthew 9:35-38 / Psalm 72
“And you will also bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.”
John 15:27
Christ’s Witnesses
After Jesus had said that he would send His Holy Spirit to testify of Him, He added: “you also will be My witnesses.” It is our joy to give witness to others about our Savior because, by faith, the Lord is with us. We know Him as Savior, and have watched Him on His journeys. We have seen Him at Calvary and at the open tomb. We know of His Word and miracles. And so, we are His witnesses – today! It is an obligation – but is a joy.
Paul was a mighty witness for Jesus. Before him, John the Baptist “came to bear witness to the light” [John 1:8], to point men to the “Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” And now, we bear witness to bring souls to Christ. To us, Jesus says as He said to Paul: “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent” [Acts 18:9]. Peter urges believers to be ready “to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” [1st Peter 3:15].
