The Best of the Portals of Prayer
Read: Psalm 90
“Remember how short my time is!”
Psalm 89:47
Remember that the Sands Run Out
In pleading with God to remember the shortness of his days, the psalmist actually stirs our memory to a very sober fact. Life expectancy has been lengthened considerably in the past decades; nevertheless, our threescore years, and ten, are still but a dot on the line of time – but it is enough.
God gives us these days to learn of Him and His Son, Jesus Christ. He who is in a living relationship with his Savior, though their time on earth be numbered by minutes, has fulfilled their purpose. Most of us, however, are granted many useful years in service to God and mankind. Even if our life seems extremely short, it is the seed of life everlasting if we have received the engrafted Word and are children of God’s grace.
As we remember the shortness of our time on earth with all its suffering and endless problems, we are grateful as we recall that our life with Christ in glory is eternal. If we remember this, we can look forward, and with confidence look upward. God has given us a lively hope that makes the close of our earthly days the threshold to heaven.
We know this to be certain because God sent Jesus into the world to redeem us from sin and death, that by faith in Him we may live forever in His presence.
