The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: Genesis 3:8-15 // Psalm 69

“The Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘where are you?”
Genesis 3:9

A Question of Hiding from God

It as a tragic scene when people flee from our good and gracious Lord. He knew full well where Adam was and why Adam was trying to hide. Sin had brought shame on the first man. Adam learned – and we know too – that trying to hide from and all-knowing and all seeing God is not the solution to our problems. Nor does it to try to minimize the problem, or to pretend that our sin does not place us under the curse of God’s Law, or that there is no eternal death.
The solution begins when God searches for us. Adam soon learned that the God who asked “where are you?” was not just condemning his guilt, but also planning his salvation. After Adam and Eve were both convicted of their sin, God immediately spoke His first messianic promise. The woman’s offspring would crush the head of the serpent. Their sin forgiven through Jesus, they would have no more need to hide from God.
God comes looking for us. We cannot – and need not – hide. He comes offering forgiveness and new life in Christ. He comes to enrich us with every spiritual blessing, to make us fruitful in every good work to His glory.
