The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: Colossians 3:16-25

“God settles the solitary in a home.”
Psalm 68:6

Are You Lonesome?

In His wise and kind providence, God permits us to grow up in families and through life supplies us with relatives and friends. But you are alone? You are living all alone? Do not cultivate loneliness. Beware of indulging in self-pity. “It is not for man to be alone” [Genesis 2:18]. There may be circumstances beyond your control, but you need not keep to yourself. Relatives and old friends may have departed; but you need not remain alone.
You congregation is the spiritual family into which God has placed you. There, you will find brethren and sisters in the faith. There are those who for Christ’s sake will take an interest in you, be kind, sympathetic and helpful. If your health permits, go forth from your lonesome quarters; bring helpful companionship to another who maybe in greater need than you.
In any case, Jesus is your heavenly friend, and is ever with you. He assures you: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” [Hebrews 13:5]. The covenant He made with you in Holy Baptism stands true and firm.

Jesus, my heavenly friend, teach me to value your presence; by your love, move me to help others. Amen.
