Day by Day with Martin Luther

Read: Jeremiah 10:1-16:15 Colossians 3:18-4:18/1st Thessalonians 1:1-3:13

Proverbs 24:28-25:5“What to Pray For”

“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
[James 5:16]

We usually press for small and trivial things and do not consider with what a Great Majesty we are speaking when we pray. For if God wanted to give only small and trivial things, He would not have prescribed such a great and magnificent form of prayer as the “Our Father”. He puts before us and offers us immense riches, and the best gifts in heaven and on earth. These he wants us to ask for and to expect; for in every petition, heaven and earth and everything that is in them are comprised. The problem is that our courage is so small, and our faith is so weak. And so know this, God is not content to give in small portion. He gives more than we understand or even have the courage to ask. Ephesians. 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.”
