The Best of the Portals of Prayer
Read: 2nd Corinthians 2:14-17 // Psalm 40
“For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.”
2nd Corinthians 2:15
The Aroma of Christ
It is known that the same aroma may cause two different responses. To some, the smell of liver and onions frying in a pan is the sign of tasty dinner on the way. To others, it is time to run out the house. Have you ever thought of Christ as an aroma that gets different reactions? Have you ever thought of yourself as being that aroma? That’s what Paul would have us do in today’s verse?
When we share the truth about Christ, we share His aroma. To those clinging to their own truth, the aroma of Christ repels – they reject Christ. They do not want to hear it because it contradicts with their chosen lifestyle or way of thinking. Tragically, to them, the aroma of Christ is the smell of death.
To those who realize that relying on themselves only leads to heartache and destruction, the aroma of Christ is fragrant! The truth about being reconciled to God becomes the fragrance of peace. The truth about Christ’s resurrection becomes the fragrance of hope. Wonderfully, to those who believe, the aroma of Christ is the fragrance of life!
