Praying the Psalms with Luther
READ: Ezekiel 44 – 46 Psalm 119 Hebrews 11:13 – 12:6
[Yes, Psalm 119 has 176 verses, but you have all weekend]
The 199th Psalm is a long Psalm, containing many prayers, comforts, instructions, and thanks in great number. It is chiefly written to make us excited about God’s Word. It praises God’s Word throughout and warns us against both the false teachers and against boredom and contempt for the Word. This is truly a Psalm of comfort. It’s primary concern is that we have God’s Word in it’s purity and hear it gladly everyday of our lives.
PRAY: Lord God, You are good and gracious, and most heartily do we thank You that You have granted us to read and to hear this song in which You commend to us Your heavenly Word. And now, prepare a place for it in our hearts, that it may shine in us a bright, heavenly light, dispelling the night of unbelief and sin, and filling our souls with the love of Jesus, our Savior. Amen and Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
