The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: James 2:14-26 // Psalm 119:153-160

“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles.”
Isaiah 40:31

Up and at ‘Em!

Time and time again we hear the remark, “I’ve had it! I just can’t do it anymore.” From a human point of view, that is probably true. The demands of our daily routine, the demands placed upon us by the family, the requests for help that come from the congregation – all seemingly come at us at the same time and seem to swamp us. Probably the first reaction is not one of “up and at ‘em”. On the contrary, it may be the desire to drop everything for the time being and take care of oneself. After all, the old adage says, “if you don’t take care of yourself, no one else will.”
However, as we arrange our priorities and put them in order, beginning with our responsibilities to the Lord, everything will fall into place. The prophet Isaiah learned this well in his time. He spelled it out very clearly: “He gives power to the faint, and to Him who has no might He increases strength” [40:29].
What a great God He is, providing us with all that we need for body and soul. He invites us to draw upon His strength and His power – His sufficient grace in Christ, our Savior. To Him shall be all glory and honor forevermore.
