The Best of the Portals of Prayer
Read: Exodus 15:1-21 // Psalm 88
“Singing to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,”
Ephesians 5:19-20
The Urge to Sing
Isn’t it strange how the urge to sing comes to us? Driving on the highway, you can hear truckers singing into their CB radios, a patient singing in the Doctor’s office, or maybe walking through the store as a song comes on the overhead speakers.
Our heavenly Father calls on us to have the urge to regularly sing. He gives us ample reason for breaking out in song. His design for our singing is that it grows out of music in our hearts to the Lord. Moment to moment, we are filled with the memory of God’s goodness and mercy. Our hearts have reason for bubbling over with music as we eagerly thank God for everything. That is a challenging word isn’t it? Everything! We thank God for our troubles and struggles and burdens – for in them – God will strengthen us. Thinking of what Jesus has done for us – as our Savior – why won’t we sing?
Gracious God, help us to have music in our hearts as we experience Your goodness in Christ. Amen.
