The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: John 13:33-37

“For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not You? For you are our glory and joy.”
1st Thessalonians 2:19-20

Foot Washers

Evangelism involves much more than just a short witness. The responsibilities of the evangelist for beyond exposing men and women to the Good News of salvation in Jesus. Jesus said: “go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” and then He added: “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” [Matthew 28:19-20]. There is a nurturing aspect to evangelism also – and follow up.
As Jesus sat at the table with His disciples for His Last Supper, He demonstrated the full measure of His commitment to them. He got up, bent over them and gently washed their feet. He had not only called them into His kingdom, but, once there, He loved, nurtured, and comforted them as they grew in trust and faith.
St. Paul taught the Thessalonians the Good News of salvation and stayed involved in their lives. He concerned himself with their growth in faith. He protected them against false teaching and gave them constant hope and comfort through the Word. Like St. Paul, like Jesus Himself, shepherd and cherish those whom you help to know Jesus.

Dear Jesus, lead me to love and serve those who have come to you. Amen.
