The Best of the Portals of Prayer

Read: Matthew 28:16-20 // Psalm 119:137-144

“Whomever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies – in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.”
1st Peter 4:11

Say Something!

There is no doubt about it: Christians are to speak. This also was true of the believers of old, as the Psalmist said: “let the redeemed of the Lord say so…” [Psalm 107:2]. Peter’s statement answers the question: how should a Christian speak? They should speak as the spokesman of God. Surely this is binding on those called to preach and teach publicly. But what is expected of ministers in public is expected of all Christians in their daily contacts with other people.
What is there for a Christian to say? As God’s spokesmen, let them repeat apply what God Himself has said to people in their several conditions and needs. To the godless: “the fool says in his heart, there is no God” [Psalm 14:1]. To the penitent: “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” [Isaiah 1:18]. To the weak: “as your days, so shall your strength be” [Deuteronomy 33:25]. To the lonely: “I will never leave you or forsake you” [Hebrews 13:5]. To the troubled: “all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose” [Romans 8:28]. The fact that these are God’s words, it gives force to what we say.

Dear Lord, let me speak of Thy justice and Thy love. Amen.
